SSA Upcoming Events
In addition to many small get-togethers, bubble tea runs, and weekend mixers, SSA hosts a number of key events during the year to celebrate the important events and check in with students during the academic year. Featured below are some of the noteworthy events.
Summer Welcome Orientation
To help new freshmen prepare for life at CMU, the Summer Welcome Orientation is a orientation over zoom filled with games, interactive activities, and the opportunity to ask questions to current CMU students in SSA!
This year’s Summer Welcome Orientation was held on June 25, 2025 (Wed) at 6.15pm to 9pm in person.
Summer Barbecue Send-Off
With move in around the corner, late July and early August is a stressful time- moving 16,650km around the world is no easy feat! Join us for a barbecue with your fellow students and alumni one last time before moving. This event is the perfect time to voice any last-minute concerns, clear any doubts about moving, and take a breather!
This year’s Summer Barbecue was held on July 26, 2025 (Fri) from 6 pm to 9pm in person at The Waterside Singapore.
Fall Welcome Picnic
If you’re feeling homesick during your first few weeks in Pittsburgh and really want to hear a large group of individuals speaking in Singlish accents, drop by SSA’s Fall Welcome Picnic!
Fall Welcome Picnic will be held on Aug 29th, 2025 (Fri), from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Flagstaff Hill.
Winter Shopping Trip @ Grove City
Coming from Singapore and have no idea what kind of winter clothes you need? Don’t worry! In the first few weeks of fall, SSA will have a winter shopping trip to Grove City – where you not only can find everything you need to prepare for winter, but also mingle with other members from SSA.
This year’s Winter Shopping Trip will be held on Sept 13th, 2025 (Sat), from 9am to 5pm.
Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner
With everyone spending Thanksgiving with family, SSA welcomes you to an evening with your Singapore Family! Food, prizes, and fun, SSA’s Thanksgiving dinner is the perfect way to relax before the end of semester!
This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner wil be help on November 28th, 2025 (Fri)
Chinese New Year Celebrations
Can’t spend CNY with your family? Spend it with your second family here in Pittsburgh, at the start of spring semester! Prepare to put on some weight at SSA’s Chinese New Year steamboat and yusheng dinner.
CNY 2026 celebrations will be held on Feb 6, 2026 (Fri).
Spring Break Ski Trip
Our biggest event of the semester, SSA will be organizing a fully-funded ski trip to Seven Springs Ski Resort! 5 days of ski fun with your Singapore family, and something to look forward to over spring break!
The ski trip will be held over 2-6th March 2026
Spring Carnival Booth
Spring Carnival is an annual CMU tradition filled with carnival food, games, and events. One such event is the construction of student organization booths – where we will come together and build multi-storey structures of a chosen theme. These booths include interactive games and decorative elements. In 2022, SSA’s booth themed after Changi Airport’s Kinetic Rain won the first prize for the Blitz Booth category and the environmental award.
Join us in Spring Carnival 2026, on April 13-15! The themes will be released soon, so stay tuned and ask us more about it!
